Located at few minutes from the Quality Axel Opera, the Louvre museum is the most famous and largest museum in Paris. Built in the former royal palace, it houses a rich collection of works of art from antiquity to the present. As one of the world's greatest museums, it houses the famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, the Venus de Milo and "Liberty Leading the People" by Eugène Delacroix.
The first works of art exhibited at the Louvre were the most beautiful paintings of the royal collection. This collection was then enriched by numerous items seized during the Napoleonic wars and then by items found during numerous excavations conducted in Egypt, Greece and the Middle East throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum now has 450,000 exhibits.
The museum is open daily from 9am to 6pm, except Tuesdays and the following bank holidays: January1st, 1st May and 25th December. Late opening until 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday.
